North Carolina born and raised; Tenay Harrell received her undergraduate degree from the illustrious North Carolina Central University in Music Education, Class of 2022. While attending NCCU, Ms. Harrell was an active member of the Sound Machine Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and a founding Member of the NCCU Low Brass Ensemble. Ms. Harrell was initiated into a Greek Band Organization, Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc., in the Spring semester of 2019 and has served in many leadership roles in the Sorority. Her experience serving as section leader and brass captain in the band allowed her the opportunity to enhance her musical talent in the form of teaching. Ms. Harrell attended Wake County Public Schools from Kindergarten to High School Graduation. She feels that her experiences through the county is what motivated her to become an educator and give back to WCPSS. Her belief is that all students should receive a quality education regardless of their race, gender, or social demographics because music can be the gateway to all-around inclusion. Ms. Harrell serves as the first African American Band Director, as well as the first Female Band Director at East Wake High School. Her hope as a music educator is to encourage students to exceed their own expectations and to always value their authenticity. |
